About Me
Petros Zekas
Maritime Educator | Master Mariner | Coordinator of “Maritime Horizons”
I am a maritime educator at the 1st Vocational Upper Secondary School of Lixouri, Kefalonia, Greece, and a Master Mariner with professional experience in shipping and port operations, including service as a Port Captain.
I coordinate “Maritime Horizons”, an educational programme connecting maritime vocational education with ocean literacy, environmental responsibility and the local community. Through practical workshops, educational visits, student projects and reflection, I help students explore the relationship between their future maritime careers and the protection of our seas.
My teaching interests include experiential and interdisciplinary learning, inclusive student participation, and collaboration between schools, maritime professionals and environmental organisations. I am also pursuing a master’s degree in Education, with an interest in participatory action research and project-based learning in vocational education.
Through the BlueLightS community, I would like to exchange teaching practices and develop European school partnerships around sustainable shipping, responsible ports and ocean literacy.
