AquaFuture: Empowering Youth for Sustainable Ocean and Water Education
Objectives of the projects
AquaFuture: Empowering Youth for Sustainable Ocean and Water Education aims to encourage students, teachers, and school communities to act as responsible citizens for the protection of oceans and water resources.
The project focuses on strengthening ocean and water literacy, raising awareness of climate change, and helping students understand the value of water ecosystems, the threats they face, and the role of individual action in sustainability.
It also aims to integrate Blue Education into different types of schools, including vocational institutions, while promoting active citizenship, intercultural cooperation, and participation in the European Blue Schools Network.
Activities
The project includes interactive workshops where students explore water ecosystems, conservation, and sustainability through creative and hands-on learning.
Students and teachers will also organise awareness campaigns using posters, social media, events, and school activities to encourage responsible water use and water-saving behaviours.
Through eTwinning collaboration, schools across Europe will work together on digital projects and cultural exchanges, helping students develop intercultural skills and a European perspective.
Creative and digital activities will also be part of the project, including ocean-inspired art, stories, presentations, and digital outputs that combine science, art, and technology.
Expected outputs
The project is expected to produce educational resources such as lesson plans, digital content, posters, creative materials, artworks, stories, and presentations.
It will also generate awareness campaigns, interactive workshops, and eTwinning activities that can be shared with students, teachers, families, and the wider community.
Schools will gain practical learning tools and models for embedding sustainability into school culture, while teachers will strengthen their professional capacity through innovative methods, digital tools, and collaborative European projects.
Impact
The project is expected to directly involve more than 500 students, 50 teachers, and school staff, while also reaching families and local community members through campaigns and events.
Students will develop knowledge about climate change, ocean and water ecosystems, and sustainable practices, while strengthening skills such as creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, digital competence, and intercultural communication.
The project also supports inclusion by involving students with disabilities, socio-economic challenges, migrants, and refugees through accessible, hands-on, and culturally sensitive learning experiences.
Overall, AquaFuture aims to create a lasting effect on environmental awareness, responsible action, and European collaboration, helping schools and communities contribute to a sustainable blue future.
