The French Biodiversity Agency (OFB) is a french public institution, under the supervision of the ministries responsible for Ecology, Agriculture and Food. The OFB has 5 main missions: scientific and technical expertise, environmental policing, support for public policies, managing protected areas and mobilising civil society.
As part of this last mission, the OFB runs an environmental education programme called Educational Areas. This project is deeply rooted in school education, engaging pupils in exploring and preserving their local environment, particularly focusing on biodiversity. Pupils, aged between 8 and 18, select an area close to their homes and begin to study and manage its ecological aspects with the support of their teachers and an external organisation, and in relation with local community.
