Visit to the Catholic School Centre “Petar Barbarić” in Travnik – Workshop “Biodiversity, Recycling and Water Protection”
On Monday, March 23, 2026, students from our school visited the Catholic School Centre “Petar Barbarić” in Travnik. The aim of this meeting was to connect the two schools through a partnership within the project “BioAqua Cycle – Cycle of Water, Life and Recycling”.
On this occasion, we conducted a workshop titled “Biodiversity, Recycling and Water Protection” for students from grades I to IV of the gymnasium who are members of the eco-biology section. In the first part of the workshop, the project was presented. This was followed by presentations on biodiversity (with special emphasis on the biodiversity of Bosnia and Herzegovina), recycling (with a focus on plastic and microplastics), and water quality and protection. After introducing the physical and chemical parameters of water quality, several experiments were also carried out.
The second part of the workshop was organized as group work. Each group was assigned the task of identifying one or more environmental problems and proposing possible solutions. The students were highly motivated and suggested solutions related to deforestation, water pollution, recycling, and other environmental issues.
We would like to thank the administration and students of the Catholic School Centre “Petar Barbarić” for their hospitality.
Our school was represented by the following students: Mihaela Ivaštanin, Kristina Pilić, Anđela Kezić, Ema Milić, and Luka Ćopić, accompanied by school pedagogist Aleksandra Veselinović and biology teacher Tanja Marić.
After the workshop, we visited the town of Travnik, and on the way back we made a short stop at the waterfall in Jajce.
This activity was implemented within the project “BioAqua Cycle – Cycle of Water, Life and Recycling”. The project is supported by Blue LightS – the 2nd Call for Blue Challenges in European Schools, based on the European Union mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”. This call for proposals is part of the BlueLightS programme – EnLIGHTening Future Schools to Deliver BLUE Sustainability in Europe, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.
