About the Event

Across Europe, schools and educators are increasingly embracing ocean and water literacy, from hands-on science projects to sustainability programmes and community engagement. To support and connect these efforts, the BlueLightS project and its partners have developed the European Blue Education Framework: a shared reference point to strengthen Blue Education across countries, curricula, and education systems.

This webinar officially launches the draft Framework, presenting its core principles, structure, and purpose. It also opens a dialogue with leading education actors whose insights will help refine the Framework ahead of its wider release. The discussion will also set the stage for the upcoming thematic webinars on national strategies, curricula, teacher training, and educational resources.

Objectives

  1. Present the purpose, scope, and structure of the new European Blue Education Framework.
  2. Explore how a shared Framework can support collaboration across Europe.
  3. Gather recommendations from key actors to strengthen the Framework before publication.

Agenda

  • Welcome and Introduction: Overview of the Blue Education Framework and the objectives of the webinar series.
  • Setting the Scene: Why a shared European Framework matters for mainstreaming Blue Education.
  • Panel Presentations: Perspectives from Framework Builders: Speakers will be announced soon.
    • How can a framework strengthen collaboration across levels and sectors?
    • What makes a framework effective in practice?
    • Where are the opportunities for alignment and synergy?
  • Interactive Dialogue with Participants
  • Open floor for reflections, questions, and contributions

Wrap-Up and Next Steps

Participants will be invited to share feedback through an online document, contributing directly to the next iteration of the Framework. A summary report capturing key messages from the webinar will be published following the event.
