8 hours, 12 minutes agoThe European Commission has unveiled the European Water Resilience Strategy, marking a major milestone in the EU’s response to escalating climate pressures on water resources.
Built around three core objectives, the strategy aims to:
1. Restore and protect the water cycle – strength through better implementation of existing water laws and embracing nature-based solutions like the new “Sponge Facility” to enhance retention.
2. Build a water-smart economy – improve water efficiency, modernize infrastructure, and support innovation, with a goal of at least 10% savings in water use by 2030.
3. Secure clean, affordable water for all – empowering citizens and businesses while reinforcing access as a fundamental right. To make this vision a reality, the European Investment Bank will deploy €15 billion between 2025-2027, leveraging up to €25 billion in matching private investments for water-related infrastructure, innovation, and ecosystem-based solutions.
This strategy offers promising opportunities for BlueLightS and the education community to connect with emerging EU investment pathways, water governance reforms, and innovation programs – all integral to advancing blue education and water stewardship across Europe.
