Join us for an engaging webinar, organised by Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB), that will provide a space for collective reflection on the role of blue education in driving transformative change and maximising its impact.
Following an introduction by the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB) on transformative change, as defined by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), we will explore the current limitations within (blue) education.
A researcher specialising in educational sciences and environmental education will present initial findings from his studies on the types of education that foster transformative change, with a particular focus on educational marine areas and coastal education programmes in France.
Participants are encouraged to contribute their thoughts and experiences throughout the webinar and will have the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers.
Agenda:
What are transformative changes? (by OFB)
- IPBES definition and its implementation in education
What kind of education leads to transformative changes? (Bréwal Soyez-Lozac’h)
- Presentation of an ideal type and comparison of various blue education/ESD programmes
- Practical example: comparison of different ESD programmes
Open discussion:
- Your thoughts on the results
- Blue education strategies to foster transformative change
- Challenges and limitations
Speakers:
🔹 Louise Bigot works at the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB) in the Stakeholders and Citizens for Biodiversity Department, focusing on the Educational Marine Areas programme. Through the European BlueLightS project, she is building partnerships to strengthen blue education in France and exploring ways to better support pupils in adopting transformative behaviours. Her work contributes to OFB’s wider mission of encouraging societal change for biodiversity.
🔹 Bréwal Soyez-Lozac’h is a physical education teacher and doctoral researcher funded by the École Normale Supérieure de Rennes. He is part of the multidisciplinary group Recherche sur les Aires Marines Éducatives (RAME – https://rame.hypotheses.org/). His work examines student engagement in environmental education programmes, especially Educational Marine Areas, with a focus on how these experiences can help reshape students’ relationship with nature in school settings.
The event is exclusive to Blue Education Platform members. To access the registration link, please log in or sign up for the platform.
We look forward to your participation!
