Project name: “Let’s Protect the Rivers of Our Country”
About the project
“Let’s Protect the Rivers of Our Country” is a student-led initiative in Berat, involving young people aged 15-18. The project aims to protect Albania’s rivers – especially the Osum River – by raising awareness and encouraging community action.
Key activities include riverbank clean-ups, awareness campaigns, the creation of educational materials, and collaboration with local institutions. Through these efforts, the project seeks to inspire young people and the wider community to protect natural water resources and promote environmental responsibility.
Work performed and main achievements
The project combines educational and hands-on activities focused on river protection. Students will lead awareness campaigns by creating posters, videos, and social media content, helping inform both their school and the wider community.
Clean-up events along the Osum River will bring together students, teachers, and volunteers, contributing to cleaner riverbanks and stronger community engagement.
Workshops with environmental experts will provide deeper insights into environmental challenges, while student presentations will encourage reflection and knowledge sharing. These activities aim to build awareness, skills, and long-term commitment to environmental protection.
Results produced by the project
The project will organise at least three awareness events and two river clean-up actions in Berat, engaging students, teachers, and local stakeholders.
Students will produce educational materials such as posters, videos, and social media content, while workshops with experts and local organisations will strengthen knowledge and collaboration.
The initiative is expected to reach over 100 students, increasing environmental awareness and encouraging active participation in community issues. It will also foster partnerships between schools, local NGOs, and municipal authorities, while helping students develop key skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership.
Engagement and impact
The project will strengthen students’ environmental awareness, sense of responsibility, and active citizenship through hands-on learning. It will equip them with essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
Teachers will gain new tools to integrate Ocean and Water Literacy into their teaching, while parents and the wider community will become more engaged through awareness activities and local action.
By promoting collaboration between schools and local institutions, the project contributes to cleaner river environments and helps build a lasting culture of sustainability in Berat.
Through this project, we hope to empower young people to become active guardians of our rivers, inspiring lasting awareness, community responsibility, and concrete action to protect Albania’s water resources for future generations.
