About the project
“Moving Waters, Breathing Lives” is a youth-led environmental initiative by students of Refat Bani School, focused on protecting the Osum River and Malas Lake near Dimal city and Malas Village. The project raises awareness about clean water and healthy ecosystems while actively engaging the local community in restoration efforts.
Key activities include student-led clean-ups, environmental education sessions, community workshops, and creative awareness campaigns through art and performances. The project also collaborates with local authorities and environmental organisations.
By leading these actions, students become active environmental stewards, demonstrating how small, collective efforts can drive meaningful change. The initiative aims to protect biodiversity, inspire responsibility, and contribute to a healthier future for both nature and local communities
Work performed and main achievements
The project will launch with regular clean-up campaigns along the Osum River and Malas Lake, led by students and supported by school staff and community volunteers. These activities will focus on waste removal and increasing local awareness, with progress measured through collected waste and participant feedback.
Environmental education workshops will be held in schools and villages, led by teachers and environmental experts. These interactive sessions will promote water conservation and ecosystem protection, with impact assessed through participant feedback and knowledge surveys.
Students will also organise awareness campaigns using creative approaches such as posters, art, and performances presented at school and community events. Success will be reflected in increased participation and community engagement.
By sharing their experiences with families and neighbours, students will help spread environmental awareness, creating a ripple effect and encouraging long-term community commitment to protecting local water ecosystems.
Results
The project will organise regular clean-up events involving over 150 students and local volunteers, contributing to visibly cleaner waterways and stronger community engagement.
Environmental education activities will reach at least 300 participants, improving knowledge of water conservation and ecosystem protection. Creative campaigns will further raise awareness and encourage wider community involvement.
